Tubular skylights provide a great source of natural sunlight
while you’re still indoors. Unlike big, bulky skylights, they don’t take up
much room and are easy to install. They look more like traditional indoor light
sources than a skylight. Rather than providing a window to the outdoors, they
simply take the light from outdoors and transfer it through a tube, and into
your home.
You can easily install your own using tubular skylight
parts. Since a tube is used, no changes are made to the beams in your roof or
any other part of the structure. It is a much simpler installation process than
a regular skylight.
One part installs on the roof, which gathers the sunlight
and feeds it through the reflective tube. The tube is connected to your light
source inside the home. Since it uses a tube, which can be bent, flexed, and
adjusted as needed, installation is very easy. The tube diffuses the light,
making it much more even and illuminating than you might expect.
All that’s needed to install one of these in your home is
the right assortment of tubular skylight parts. A hole will have to be made in
the exterior roof, but special tubular skylight parts are included that fit
underneath your shingles (much like the installation process of a vent tube).
These parts prevent moisture from entering any part of the home.
Of course, proper installation is a must. If you’re not
comfortable installing something like this on your own, be sure to consult the
expertise of a professional.
