Fountains can spice up the look of any yard, but they can
have several drawbacks. The most common complaints are that it can be difficult
to run an electrical line to them – a process often involving digging up large
portions of the yard to install buried electrical line, or leaving an ugly cord
running from the nearest electrical outlet.
Another disadvantage regular fountains have is that if you
let them run all the time they can drive your electric bill up. Of course, a
small pump moving a small quantity of water doesn’t suck up a lot of power, but
every little bit makes a difference – especially added up over time. A few
dollars a month can mean a few hundred dollars before long, and much more over
the life of a fountain.
The easiest solution is to simply use a solar powered
fountain. A small solar panel (that’s difficult to even find with the naked
eye) absorbs sunlight and harnesses
energy from it. Inexpensive solar fountains may directly use the power to pump
water, while more advanced systems will use the power to charge a battery
system, so the fountain will run around the clock – even when it’s dark out.
For the ultimate in green, renewable landscaping, pair your
solar fountain with a set of solar lights. The lights will illuminate the
fountain at night, so everyone can enjoy it.
When choosing a fountain, the only way to go these days is
with a clean, green, solar powered system!
